Eijlander and Van Oorschot above salary norm
In 2010 rector Philip Eijlander en Chairman of the Executive Board Hein van Oorschot both earned more than the norm for top incomes in semi-public sectors allowed. Van Oorschot earned 202,743 euros, Eijlander got paid a few hundred euros less (202,066 euros).
A list with incomes of executives in the semi-public sector is published on the website of the Dutch education union Algemene Onderwijsbond (AOb). The list is updated annually and the union gathers its information from the annual reports of the educational institutions. Executives that earn more than 193,000 euros per year (the so-called Wopt-norm, based on an average minister’s wage), have to publish this information in their annual report.
In comparison with executives of other educational institutions, the pay for the Tilburg Board members is relatively low. Highest paid university executive is chairman of the board Aalt Dijkhuizen (351,102 euros) in Wageningen. This income is also higher than the ethical maximum for the public and semi-public sectors, the so-called Balkenende norm of 223,000 euros.
