Young Brabant citizens increasingly entrepreneurial

The number of young people between 20 and 29 years old who start their own businesses in Brabant has increased considerably.

The number of young people registering their business at the Brabant Chamber of Commerce (KvK) has increased four times over the course of five years, says the Chamber of Commerce. In 2007 there were nearly 750 young entrepreneurs, and last year there were over 3000.

The number of young entrepreneurs also increases in proportion to the older ones. In 2007, 12% percent of the businessmen-to-be were between 20 and 29 years old. Last year, almost 16% percent of all entrepreneurs form Brabant was from this age group.

According to the Chamber of Commerce, the main motivations for young people to start their companies are often freedom and responsibility.  Also, building a good resume with respect to future career opportunities is indicated as a reason to start a business. Students usually start companies in areas of services, technology and creative industries.
