1.5 Million for UvT-Professor

UvT-professor Jaap Abbring will receive 1.5 million euro (Vici-grant) from the Dutch Society for Scientific Research (Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek) to perform research in the next five years. The professor in econometrics will be developing methods for the analysis of social issues such as social security and unemployment, risk behavior of young people, competition policy and innovations.

The Vici grant is meant for outstanding scientific talent, performing groundbreaking and innovative research. The grant offers researchers the possibility to construct a research group in five years.

Abbring’s research project ‘The econometrics of dynamic discrete choices and games’ consists of the use of dynamic choice- and game models for studying social phenomena. Abbring and colleagues will be developing econometric methods to apply those models on a wider range. This includes, for example, the analysis of school choices, the influence of friends on young people’s behavior, investments of companies and evaluation of the thereon aimed education-, youth- and competition policies
